The extensive learning opportunities on offer at Tarrington cater for the full range of needs and interests of our students. We review our offering annually to ensure its’ currency and alignment with the latest educational research. Students are also encouraged to become involved in this process by sharing their feedback through a variety of channels such as the Student Representative Committee.

Our daily timetable is structured to prioritise deep learning. Literacy and numeracy lessons take place in the mornings when students are at their most alert. Essential learning is interspersed with an exciting co-curricular program and integrated studies that ensure students relate their learning to real life situations. On a given school day, students engage with a variety of subject material, including:

  • Christian Studies
  • English
  • German Language
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (including History and Geography)
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • STEM
  • Visual and Performing Arts.

Supporting students’ academic progress

The student learning experience extends beyond traditional grade-based markers of progress and understanding. The difficulty of work and approach to teaching is carefully considered in the context of each child as a unique learner.

We strive to create an environment that nurtures a natural love of learning and inspires students’ confidence to challenge themselves academically. Academic excellence is encouraged and honest effort is rewarded regardless of the result.

Student progress is monitored through regular assessment that aligns with our teaching and learning philosophy. Where possible, assessments are grounded in ‘real life’ scenarios that emphasise their relevance to students.

Formal reports are issued at the conclusion of Semester One and Semester Two, followed by a parent-teacher-student conference. At the conference, students take the lead in demonstrating what they have been learning in class by sharing their Digital Learning Portfolio with their parents and teachers.

Additional conferences may be requested by parents or teachers throughout the year as required.
